I used to consider James Carville a good ally for the Demcratic Party. He helped Bill Clinton get elected, and often provided some entertaining commentary on the political process. My favorite quote of his was “When your opponent is drowning, throw the son of a bitch an anvil.

That was then. This is now.

On Tuesday, the efforts of Governor Howard Dean to transform the Democratic Party into a winning team paid off in a big way. Thanks to the coordinated efforts of the DNC and the grassroots activists, all 50 states are now considered fair game for the Democratic Party. The glass fascade of “red state vs blue state” divisions has now been shattered by the open debate of the motivated Democrats ready to challenge the status quo.

So, now that Howard Dean has demonstrated a plan that actually works, what does James Carville do? He denounces Dean’s efforts, and calls for someone else to run the Democratic Party.

Now, it turns out, we learn that he actually leaked information about John Kerry’s 2004 Ohio strategy to a White House insider, namely his Republican strategist wife.

With friends like this in the Democratic Party, who needs enemies?

OK, so maybe Carville had a temporary lapse of reasoning. Carville has done some good things in the past for the Democrats, but jeez… what the hell was this guy thinking?
